School Culture

Merensky High School is proud to carry the SAOU title:

“Skool met die beste bevordering van kultuur”

At Plasieland sport and culture go hand-in-hand. This is the best place to make culture eagles soar.

PRODUCTIONS

Every second year the whole school has the opportunity to take part in a big production. Revues as well favourite musicals have successfully been staged.

In 2021 ONDER KONSTRUKSIE was presented on stage and as a film.

PUBLIC SPEAKING

Annual participation in the ATKV additional language competition is encouraged.
Senior learners have the opportunity to compete in the annual Rojac speech competition.
Plasies do well at the annual “SA Model United Nations Debate”.
From 2018, English speaking learners can also compete in the Radikale Redenaars, hosted at Merensky.

POP-UPS

An annual talent competition at Plasieland.
After auditions in various categories (Dance, Instrumental, Vocal, Drama) the top entries perform at a gala evening and compete for big prizes.

PLAYS

Acting has been going strong since the 70’s.  Drama students have the opportunity to enter the annual National Acting Competition in Cape Town.
An English play will be presented in July 2018.

MDDA EISTEDDFOD

Merensky High School annually hosts the MDDA Eisteddfod. Our students perform well in the various sections such as Music, Vocal, Instrumental, Art, Dance and Afrikaans and English Drama. The overall winner in the High School Division usually comes from the Plasie stable.

COMPETITIONS AND CHAMPIONSHIPS

Learners are encouraged to participate in external competitions and championships.
Over the years, a good number of dancers, singers and musicians have been included in the South African team competing in the USA.
