11 to 15 February was a great week for the Merensky High School Athletics Team. Not one, not two, but three meetings kept the adrenaline levels in the blue.

The group 7 & 8 PUK Inter-High at Alberton High School was first on the calendar on 11 February.

Besides Merensky, high schools Rob Ferreira, Alberton, Uitsig and Curro Hazeldean, Curro Serengeti and St Stithians participated. Merensky finished second with 720.5 points, after Rob Ferreira.

Again Elandri Janse van Rensburg (grade 8) and her javelin boasted with 2 awards: Junior Victrix Ludorum and Best Girl Field Athlete.

Valley Ngobeni (grade 9) left the field as Best Junior Boy Field Athlete, while Mandi Botha (grade 11) was named Best Senior Girl Track Athlete.

At the TUKS Top 10 meet, on 13 February, Elandri made the javelin fly 37.90m, and secured her second place out of 75 schools.

At Hans Strijdom High School, the Plasie team measured forces against high schools Akasia, Wonderboom, Hans Strijdom, Pretoria North, Frikkie Meyer and HTS Tom Naudé.

Merensky won 11 gold, 24 silver and 16 bronze medals. Four special awards made the day even more exciting for the Plasies: Vutomi Mkhabele (grade 12), Senior Victor Ludorum and Best Senior Boy Track Athlete; Elandri Janse van Rensburg, Junior Victrix Ludorum and Best Junior Girl Field Athlete.

The table is set for the athletics show of the year on 22 February, when Plasiepark will explode with the Soutpansberg Inter-High.
