Versatile coach Alex performs

Merensky High School teacher and tennis coach, Alexandra Dreyer, displayed her versatile skills on horse back and tennis court over the weekend of 3 to 8 March. On 3 March Dreyer completed a qualifying equestrian endurance race over 80km in 4h30m at Louwna, Vryburg in which she was placed third. The following day she competed in the annual ITF national championships in Bloemfontein. She competed in the 30-35 age group, singles, doubles and mixed categories. Dreyer placed 2nd in the ladies singles and ladies doubles and 6th in the mixed doubles. She still retains the first seed in her age group in South Africa.

Merensky skouspringer presteer

Laryn Bezuidenhout, ‘n graad 11 leerling van Hoërskool Merensky het op 16 tot 19 Februarie aan die Revil Stables Classic in Polokwane deelgeneem. Tydens hierdie skou het sy en haar perd, Saratoga Tango, op Donderdag in die 90cm-klas deelgeneem en ‘n tweedeplek behaal. Vanaf Vrydag tot Sondag spring sy in die 1m-kampioenskapsklas. Met ‘n vierde plek en genoegsame punte kwalifiseer Bezuidenhout om voortaan die 1.1m-klas aan te durf. Na 5 jaar se toegewyde oefening spog Bezuidenhout ook met die Limpopo titel as beste vlak 4-ruiter in die skouspring-dissipline.

Top of the gallops

Celebrations were in order amongst the equestrian ranks at Plasieland. Both Anri Janse van Rensburg (grade 12) and Dawie van Jaarsveld (grade 11) were honoured for their 2016 achievements during the recent SANESA Western Mounted Games prize giving. Janse van Rensburg was crowned the top level 7 WMG rider in Limpopo. Van Jaarsveld claimed the same honours in level 4.
