Janke wins Munnik Meerkat

Merensky High School’s mountain bikers gave their all during the formidable 35km Munnik Meerkat Mountain biking challenge. In the Girls' Youth section, Janke Joubert obtained a well-deserved first place, with Annelene Rood second and Marize Smit sixth. Strong competition at Spur Schools MTB nationals

Merensky High School’s mountain bikers participated in the national Spur Schools XCO event at Bekker High School in Magaliesburg on 5 and 6 October. All nine provinces, with Zimbabwe, Namibia and Zambia were present. In the midst of strong competition, the Plasies approached the especially technical route, with many loose stones and short slopes. Between 70 and 85 participants entered the boys’ categories, while between 40 and 50 cyclists participated in each girl category. Plasie cyclists off to Nationals

Six cyclists from Merensky High School were recently chosen for team Limpopo. Janke Joubert, Annalene Rood, Jodi Spaumer, Sheldon Muller, Armand Cronje and Gunter Katzke will give their all at Bekker High School at the National XCO for High Schools during the October recess. More cycling news is that no less than 15 Plasie cycle champs competed in the Tour de Marula, Spur XCO at Ellisras on Saturday, 15 September. Tzaneen is well known for its gruelling heat, but conditions in Ellisras proved to be an extreme challenge. Nonetheless, team Plasieland ended in 4th position out of 14 schools.
