Wimbledon comes to Plasieland

It was game, set and match on 20 October when Merensky High School hosted their annual “Wimbledon” Day/Night Tennis tournament. This year 34 local tennis players registered to compete in the junior and senior doubles categories. In the junior section JP Botha (Tzaneen Primary) and Waldo Pretorius (Laerskool Dr Annecke) ruled the day. Jan-Pieter Botha and Willie Jonker won the senior mens’ doubles, while the senior ladies title went to Izelle du Preez and Hannerie du Toit. With the traditional strawberries and cream, the 2017 tennis year at Plasieland drew to a close.

Alexandra Dreyer, tennisafrigter by Hoërskool Merensky, het van 9 tot 14 Oktober vir die Gauteng-Noord 30+ A-span aan die Suid-Afrikaanse tenniskampioenskappe in Bloemfontein deelgeneem. Ses provinsiale spanne het vyf dae lank meegeding om te bepaal wie die inter-provinsiale spankampioene is. Dreyer se span het met die louere weggestap. Dreyer het 10 wedstryde in dié toernooi gespeel, waarvan sy agt gewen het. Sy bekleë tans die tweede posisie in Suid-Afrika in die vroue 30-35 ouderdomsgroep. Dreyer speel oor die volgende 3 naweke Gauteng-Noord geslote toernooie ten einde te kwalifiseer vir…

Plasie tennis in Bethlehem

Five tennis players from Merensky High School competed in the Inter Africa Bureau de Change tournament in Bethlehem from 6 to 10 September. This is a very popular tournament with 38 participating teams from high schools around the country. The boys’ team did well in their games against Voortrekker High School in Bethlehem, Helpmekaar College from Johannesburg, Wesvalia High School from Klerksdorp, Hoërskole Lichtenburg and Linden (Johannesburg) as well as Frankfort High School, ending in the 6th position. The girls battled against their opponents, ending 15th.
