Exciting talent pops up

HOSTS: Chris Bill and Elzette van Dyk.

The annual Pop-ups talent show at Merensky High School was once again a roaring success. On Wednesday, 11 May, no less than twenty seven top class items competed in eleven categories. The brilliant hosts, Elzette van Dyk and Chris Bill, had the audience in stitches with their quips and jokes.

In the vocal section, Lize Crafford took 1st place with a most enjoyable solo, while she and Ockert Fernandes won the vocal duo category. Hayley Stephenson won the solo vocal and instrumental section, and joined forces with Kesia Pohl to be placed first in the vocal and instrumental duo category. The trio consisting of Mpho Mofokeng, Adam Mohale and Noah Mafaralala took top honours in the group vocal and instrumental section. Suandrie Corbett came first in the instrumental solo with a moving rendition on the flute. In the drama section Fumo Chabalala was the solo winner with a poem written by himself. Bernice Cronje and Michaela Viljoen wowed the audience with their dialogue, and took first place in the drama duo category. Shani van der Westhuizen was awarded first price in the solo dance, while the Country girls came first in the group dance category. A “hat trick” went to the supremely talented Lize Crafford when she was named the audience favourite.

This yearly event proves to be a highlight on the Plasie cultural calendar.
