On Friday 14 September, 37 grade 10 and 11 Hospitality and Tourism students from Merensky High School undertook a trip to ATKV Klein Kariba near Bela-Bela, for a site visit.
The resort warmly welcomed the Plasies, where they started their tour in the reception and reservations office. The laundry, banqueting and conference venues, as well as the main kitchen, was visited. The marketing manager, Mr Riaan Maritz, explained in detail how they make use of social media to obtain a satisfying occupancy rate. He launched an impromptu competition on Instagram and the following Plasies, who captured “life at Klein Kariba” the best, received a Klein Kariba gift pack: Canell Jackson (winner), Nina Grové, Laché van der Westhuizen, Marissa de Wet, Jeandré Joubert and Leandré Niewoudt.
After a late lunch it was time for fun in the sun. The learners enjoyed all the amenities before they had to board the bus towards home.
The trip definitely fulfilled its educational purpose of awarding the Plasies an insight into the daily operation of all the departments necessary to run a busy, successful resort.
