It’s raining medals

TEAM SPIRIT: The Circus.

After a week of suspense: will the athletics inter-high be washed out or not, the Plasie athletics and circus teams set off for Musina at 3am on Friday, 23 February. Raindrops did not fall, but it surely rained medals.

A most enjoyable, well organised event was presented by Eric Louw High School. Other participating schools were Hoërskool Pietersburg, Louis Trichardt High School, HTS Tom Naudé, Frans du Toit High School and Northern Academy.

On the track and field the Merensky athletes excelled, reaping a total of 37 gold, 44 silver and 28 bronze medals. To top it off, Dylan Herrendoerfer was named Senior Victor Ludorum, while Sancha van Niekerk shared the Senior Victrix Ludorum title with Alida du Preez from PHS. Zuleika Ferns was awarded the trophy for Junior Victrix Ludorum.

Kesia Pohl was named the best senior girls veld athlete of the day, while Andru Miller was the best senior boys track athlete.

Overall, Merensky High School ended in the second place with 632 points, after PHS with 759 points.

On the pavilion the circus came to town. Inspired by energetic cheerleaders, the Plasie blue shirts and white caps were noticed by one and all. The team spirit reigned long after the last “on your marks” was heard.

Plasiepark is ready to host this auspicious event in 2019.
