‘n Unieke kunsskool-binne-die-skool

Hoërskool Merensky se unieke MDDK (Musiek-, Dans-, Drama- en Kunsskool) funksioneer onder die beheerliggaam.

Hoogs gekwalifiseerde buite-afrigters bied geleentheid aan leerders om hul volle potensiaal te ontwikkel en hul talente te ontgin met 26 klasse per jaar.

Afhangende van die leerder se rooster, word sommige klasse tydens skoolure aangebied en ander na skool.

Plasies seëvier met UNISA eksamen

Twee van die Merensky MDDK (musiek, dans, drama en kuns) leerlinge het onlangs hul UNISA musiekeksamen afgelê. Geluk aan Suandrie Corbett wie haar graad 5 fluiteksamen geslaag het met 78%. Heinrich Schultz doen eweneens goed en behaal 73% met sy saksofoon, voorgraad 1 eksamen. Baie dankie aan hul tutor, me. Mareli van der Walt vir haar aansporing en toewyding.

Eat, Sleep, Dance, Repeat

Six dancers from Merensky High School’s MDDA (Music, Dance, Drama & Art School) spent the holidays on their toes. Marné Barnard, Nicole Muller, Crystal Kirstein, Jeandré Joubert, John Slabber and Ulrich Greeff competed in two Solo Danca Latina championships in Polokwane. Solo Danca Latina by Mark Dooley is part of DanceSport SA, affiliated to SASCOC (SA Olympic Committee) which means that the provincial and national colours are recognised by the Department of Sports & Recreation. An exciting first for the MDDA

PHOTO: Anriette van Rooyen (tutor) and Jordin Young. Merensky High School’s MDDA claimed another first when the drama school entered their first student in a Trinity College drama exam. Trinity College London is a leading international exam board and independent education charity that has been providing assessments in the performing arts around the world since 1877. Jordin Young (grade 11) did exceptionally well in her grade 6 drama and speech exam, achieving a 91% average. For the examination Jordin had to prepare a monologue from a play, a dramatised prose and a narrative poem. There was also an unprepared section consisting of sight reading and an interview with the examiner…
