Three of Merensky High School’s cricket teams participated in league games against Pietersburg Hoërskool on Saturday, 3 September.
The Plasie 1st team were asked to bowl first. They bowled PHS out for 211 runs, but lost the game with 16 runs. Blake Linder took 4 wickets for only 29 runs and Ruurd Jacobs took 3 wickets for 38 runs. The star batsmen were Alex Jardim with 75 runs and Ruurd Jacobs with 31 runs.
The 2nd team also played on home soil. They first went in to bat, scoring 191 runs all out. Hencus Steenkamp made 39 runs and Armand Fourie 36. Shaahil Shaikh took 8 wickets for 40 runs. PHS managed to score only 144 runs, and Merensky won the game with 47 runs.
Merensky’s u.15 boys travelled to Polokwane for their game. Although they managed to bowl PHS out for 198, they lost the game with 17 runs. Rinus Jacobs took 4 wickets for only 27 runs, and Kian van der Schyff took 3 wickets for 38 runs. The best bowlers were Gideon Engelbrecht with 38 runs and Kian van der Schyff with 27 runs.
