On the weekend of 22 to 24 January, 9 learners from grade 9 to 12 went on a three day hike in Magoebaskloof. This venture is part of the Presidents Award at Merensky High School, and the hikers are working for their silver status.

The adventure started on Friday morning, leaving from Broederstroom to Dokolewa to Seepsteen and ending on Sunday close to Debegeni Waterfall.

The hikers were fortunate to experience mild weather conditions and the 50 km was completed with ease as all the hikers prepared well in advance for this endeavour. Participants learnt more about the environment and spotted very scarce Knysna Loeries, as well as Samango monkeys.

Once these hikers complete their journals, they will start to prepare for the prestigious golden Presidential Award.

The hikers would like to thank Mrss Ada Venter, Willemien van Niekerk, Yolandé Rautenbach and Adri Venter, who accompanied them on this exciting weekend.
