Plasie hockey takes a stand

In a fitting tribute on Youth Day, 16 June, four girls hockey teams from Merensky High School competed in the Limpopo finals for medium schools at Stanford Lake College.

The u.14 girls were the stars of the day, defeating the team of Ben Vorster, 4-0. Scorers were: Amerie Kotze (2), Claudelle Cawood (1) and Chantelle Meyer (1). This promising team is now Limpopo champions and will be in action at Cornwall Hill College in the Noordvaal tournament on 2 to 4 August.

The u.15 team won Ben Vorster 3-2. At end of play the score was a draw, 1-1. After an 8 second play-off Luné Fritz scored her second goal and Emma Dalrymple-Hay also contibuted a goal. This team now hold third position in Limpopo and are going through to the Noordvaal tournament at Hatfield Christian Academy.

Merensky’s u.16 team claimed a second position in Limpopo and will travel to Hockey Farm Witbank for their Noordvaal challenge.

In an exciting match against the team of Stanford Lake College, the Plasie 1st team jumped with joy after their 1-0 victory. Tharien Lombard was the fortunate goal-scorer. This score assured their third position in Limpopo as well as a trip to Krugersdorp where they will compete at Noordheuwel High School in the Noordvaal tournament.

Plasie hockey looks back on a very successful season when taken into consideration that the u.14 boys will also compete in the Noordvaal tournament.
