President’s Award alive and well at Merensky

Keep the Dream Foundation Hikers

Merensky High School congratulates the following learners who have completed their silver President’s Award in 2016: Tahiyya Moosa, Eljana Fleischmann, Jenna Devenish and Amelia Middleton.

Gideon Engelbrecht, Juan-Jacques Moller, Jan-Carel van Niekerk and Jenelle de Jonge also completed the bronze award and are on their way to obtain gold.

Another first occurred when two of Merensky High School’s President Award facilitators accompanied 9 learners from the Keep the Dream Foundation, based in the outskirts of Tzaneen, as well as 1 learner from Capricorn High School in Polokwane on their first bronze President’s Award hike.

On Saturday, 14 January the group set off from Woodbush, which forms part of the Magoebaskloof Hiking trial. They ended the first day at Waterfall Hut. On Sunday they continued to De Hoek Hut. A total of 33km over rough and wet terrain proved a challenge, as some bridges were washed away and more difficult alternative routes had to be taken.

Merensky wishes these learners all the best upon completing their prestigious bronze award.
