438 Mountain bikers, representing 84 schools from across South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia, competed for the coveted title of the Spur Schools Mountain Bike League Champions held at Bekker School in Magaliesburg. On Saturday, 8 October, high schools competed against each other. On Sunday, 9 October the interprovincial challenge took place. Amelia Middelton, Bernice Cronjé, Sheldon Muller, Armand Cronjé and Janco Coetzee represented Merensky. Amelia, Armand and Janco also represented Limpopo. Ten bikers from Merensky High School participated in the treacherous Louis Trichardt XCO Mountain Biking event on 17 September. The Plasie peddlars once again proved that they are a force to be reckoned with. In the sub junior boys u.14 category Bevan Muller came 14th, Janco Coetzee 19th, Matthew Taylor 27th and Benjamin Freitas 36th. Armand Cronjé ended 4th, Sheldon Muller 7th and Revan Beukes 25th in the youth boys u.16 category, Merensky’s Amelia Middleton again showed her determination and skill by being the first junior girl u.18 to cross the finish line. Plasie cyclists once again were a force to be reckoned with during the third XCO Mountain Bike Challenge held at Mokopane on Saturday, 3 September. Amelia Middleton gave her best and was rewarded a 1st place in the junior girls u.18 category. Bernice Cronjé came 7th. Chelsea Schlebusch and Jenna Devenish took the 11th and 14th places. Janco Coetzee received a silver medal for his second place in the sub junior boys u.14 division. Bevan Muller came 11th and Matthew Taylor 25th.
