Out with the old. In with the new.
Merensky High School welcomed some of their new grade 8s and parents on Saturday, 17 November 2018, at Plasiepark.
At the break of dawn it was all systems go when the Plasie team, consisting of sports coaches and learners, set up to receive the more than 100 eager beaver newcomers. The aim of this initiative was to introduce them to athletics and winter sports, the Plasie way.
Nobody was deterred by the extreme heat, as the saying goes: ‘n Plasie gaan lê nooit. In the first workshop of the day, more than 70 aspiring athletes gathered to make new friends and meet their 2019 coaches. A two-hour session of exploring talents and intensive skills training, set the tone for the winter sports workshops that followed.
On the rugby and hockey fields, as well as the netball courts, the youngsters underwent fitness tests and skills training, while valuable tips and tricks were shared.
At mid-day the parents gathered at the rugby clubhouse for an information session and informal braai, while the new skivvies met their executive committee members on a specially designed Plasiesports adventure course.
This dynamic, fun filled event drew to a close in the cool waters of the swimming pool where the Plasies-to-be were treated to chunks of watermelon and lunch.
Parents and learners were in agreement that this event already made them feel at home. The Plasies are ready to rock, roll and rumble in 2019.
